This Raspberry Pi 5 with NVMe SSD kit promises to elevate your Raspberry Pi experience to unprecedented heights. A Raspberry Pi 5 with NVMe SSD instead of an SD-card increases the disk read speed by 10, or even by 20 compared to a Raspberry Pi 4 with SD-card. On top, it improves the reliability and increases the storage capacity of your Pi.

No hassle, your Raspberry Pi comes fully assembled and Raspberry Pi OS, Home Assistant or Ubuntu on the NVMe SSD is already preinstalled.

Description

Start right away by choosing for an NVMe SSD instead of a micro-SD card for your Raspberry Pi 5 hardware.

This kit combines an NVMe M.2 SSD  with a Raspberry Pi in a very compact case. We install the board’s firmware to boot from the NVMe SSD. Thanks to this, there is no need for a micro SD card any more (but it remains possible).

Compared to the Raspberry Pi 4, the Raspberry Pi 5 CPU’s performance has increased drastically. And besides this, the Raspberry Pi 5 comes with additional advantages such as improved graphics output, enhanced I/O capabilities (including PCI-E), dual camera/display ports, power button, real-time clock, …

Operating System

We preinstall the operating system. Choose among several possible operating systems to perfectly match your needs :

  • Raspberry Pi OS (64-bit), the official desktop Raspberry Pi Operating System. This OS is recommended for users getting started with the Raspberry Pi. It comes with plenty of useful applications : Chromium browser, Games, Programming tools and much more.
  • Ubuntu Desktop (latest release – 64-bit), an open source desktop operating system, widely used around the world, with all the essential applications for home, school, and work.
  • Home Assistant (64-bit), an open source and popular home automation operating system. Perfect to run on your Raspberry Pi.

Beside uploading the software, we assemble all the hardware. Plug in the necessary cables and you are ready to go…

Benefits of an NMVe SSD

Having the OS installed on an NVMe SSD (Non-Volatile Memory Express Solid-State Drive)  instead of the micro SD card has 3 main benefits :

    • Firstly, it will increase the speed of your Pi drastically. Comparing with a standard class 10 micro-SD card, the difference is amazing : 10x faster or even more. Even the fastest micro-SD card is much slower than the NVMe SSD.
    • Secondly, the reliability of your setup will improve. Indeed, micro-SD cards are originally made to store pictures, music and video. Using them for the Operating System of your computer is not ideal. The frequent read and write operations makes the micro-SD card the weakest element of your Pi. In many cases this could mean a complete loss of all your work. In contrary, NVMe SSD are used in millions of PC or laptops and have proven to be very reliable.
    • Last but not least, the storage capacity of an NVMe SSD is in general much higher than the capacity of a micro-SD card.

In conclusion, taking into account the power and features of the Raspberry Pi 5 in combination with the NVMe SSD, this small computer can be compared with an entry-level desktop PC. On top of the features of a standard desktop PC, the Raspberry Pi is less energy hungry and offers much more possibilities. The applications for this mini computer are countless, the only limit is your imagination: desktop PC, home automation, media and entertainment center, gaming console, web server, …
